01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

At Kajin sweets, soft serve comes in several styles: plain, with a clean finish; strawberry, topped with sweet-tart sauce; or chocolate, with dark chocolate sauce and brownie. One visitor found the soft serve topped with cookies and langue de chat biscuits satisfying and generously sized for 350 yen. Choose the chocolate version for the rich brownie, or keep things simple with the milk flavour when you want a little break.

There are two kinds of pudding. The firm, gently sweet Classical Pudding is made with eggs, milk and raw cane sugar, while the smooth Cream Pudding uses extra egg yolks and fresh cream from Hokkaido. A diner who tried the Classical Pudding enjoyed it with its bittersweet caramel. The Pudding Soft Serve combines pudding and soft serve, with caramel at the bottom adding a contrasting note.

For Swiss rolls, options include the plain Kajin Roll, with a moist sponge and lightly sweetened fresh cream from Hokkaido; a chocolate version filled with chocolate custard; and a Uji Matcha Roll made with matcha from Uji, Kyoto, in both the sponge and cream. The cream puff, Chou Cream, has a fragrant, crisp shell filled with house-made custard cooked in a copper pot and fresh cream from Hokkaido. You can eat in or take your order away, so you could pair soft serve to enjoy straight away with baked treats for later.
